Ryanair pilots and management endorse a Collective Labour Agreement

Brussels, 15 February 2019

Following a secret ballot that was carried out between 4 and 14 February, Ryanair pilots based in Belgium endorsed a Collective Labour Agreement (CLA) on Remuneration and Rostering. The participation rate was high (128 participants, which represents 78%) and 98,5% of participants voted in favour of it. According to BeCA – who actively participated in the negotiations – this agreement guarantees stability for Ryanair pilots for the next four years and harmonises working and remuneration conditions for all pilots based in Belgium. It also includes the opportunity for self-employed pilots to sign an employment contract with Ryanair.

This agreement is a result of Ryanair’s acceptance of the application of Belgian labour law on 25 October 2018 (in force since 1st February 2019), which was followed by a CLA on seniority, base transfers and captain upgrades signed in December 2018. These elements constitute a solid basis to ensure a better social dialogue between Ryanair and its pilots working in our country.

However, it is not all over. It is now up to Ryanair to establish an appropriate local management structure that will guarantee the quick implementation of these commitments.

Moreover, Ryanair committed in today’s CLA to negotiating a series of agreements in the coming months on work regulation and daily representation of employees.

BeCA will of course continue to be closely involved in order to ensure pilots are represented adequately, as a real change in the company culture towards its flying crew is necessary.
